Quito, Galápagos Islands Cruise. Fly to San Cristóbal Island, the easternmost island in the Galápagos archipelago and one of the few islands to have a permanent settlement. On arrival, transfer to your ship and enjoy a talk on the landscapes you are about to discover. After lunch, set out cruising to Punta Pitt, a point on San Cristóbal Island that's an important nesting area for many bird species and the only location where you will find all three species of the blue-footed booby. Here, perhaps stroll along a walking trail, wander the coast or set off on a panga (Zodiac) ride. This evening, enjoy the first of many delicious dinners on board. Stay (Four Nights): Galápagos Islands Cruise, M/V Santa Cruz II. BLD Day 13. Galápagos Islands Cruise. This morning enjoy a panga ride to Santa Fe Island and land on an idyllic sandy-white beach populated by many sea lions. Look out for the land iguanas, unique to this island, amid the giant prickly pear cactus. Perhaps snorkel the pristine waters or enjoy a glass-bottom boat ride. After lunch, continue to South Plaza Island, where white sand and black lava contrast brilliantly against the turquoise waters. Beyond, a carpet of scarlet Sesuvium succulents protects a grove of prickly pear cactus, and yellow-grey land iguanas sit beneath the luminescent green cacti, waiting for pears to drop. Along the coast, watch for sea lion colonies, as well as the frigatebirds, swallow-tailed gulls and shearwaters that glide by. BLD Day 14. Galápagos Islands Cruise. Disembark your ship on Santa Cruz Island at Puerto Ayora, the most populated town in the Galápagos. Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, a not-for-profit biological research centre that conducts a range of scientific research with a view to conserving the unique environment of the Galápagos. Tour the facility and see giant Galápagos tortoises, as well as a range of other native creatures. The afternoon is then yours at leisure. Perhaps go hiking, biking or kayaking in Tortuga Bay, before returning to your ship for a tantalising dinner. BLD Day 15. Galápagos Islands Cruise. Spend today exploring Punta Suarez, situated on the western end of the island. Here, a wildlife walk provides one of the highlights of your journey. Continue to Española Island, a remarkable island that plays host to an extraordinary range of creatures. In Gardener's Bay, arrive on a long, white sandy beach, where magnificent colonies of sea lions and marine iguanas laze in the sun and sea turtles swim offshore. Keep an eye out for warbler-finches, small ground finches, large cactus finches and hood mockingbirds.
