CAYMAN ISLANDS Just one glimpse of Seven Mile Beach's silver sands may trigger a wave of déjà vu; its postcard-worthy landscape is exactly that. Fringed by shady casuarina trees and laced with pristine waters, days are easily lost just taking in its beauty. Not far from the shore lies a new world to discover. The famous black limestone formations of "Hell" are striking, but in the opposite direction of long sandbanks, the Caymans are known as one of the region's top diving destinations. More than 200 scuba diving sites can be found within these three Western Caribbean islands. Visibility underwater reaches up to 100 feet, and spectacular shipwrecks, vast coral reefs, dramatic walls and stunning drop-offs make every dive an adventure. Yet if the deep blue is a bit too deep, Stingray City in the North Sound puts you at the center of gentle stingrays, whose fins flutter peacefully in water only three feet deep and half a mile from shore. Back on land, the capital city of Georgetown is a cosmopolitan hub and busy cruise port, where duty-free shopping is plentiful and the selection is diverse. It may be challenging to pull yourself away from fine European fashion and Caymanite jewelry, but the culinary choices are just as hard to resist. Local restaurants serve fresh conch, lobster, grouper, jerk chicken and West Indian side dishes in grand style or casual comfort—both of which are also options for your stay.
