Travel to Xian, one of the oldest cities in China with more than 3,100 years of history. Finish your travel in Beijing, a buzzing metropolis of culture and stark contrast between new buildings and developed cities and historic sites. days 1-2: us to shanghai Depart on your overnight flight from the US to China. Upon arrival in Shanghai, the beating heart of modern China, also known as the 'Paris of the East'. Meet your guide and driver and transfer to your hotel. day 7: yangshuo to guilin Visit the colorful stalactites of Reed Flute Caves. Inside this watereroded cave is a wonderful world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations, illuminated by colorful lights. day 3: shanghai Visit the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum which houses over 120,000 pieces of bronze, coins, jade, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy. Walk along the picturesque waterfront of the colonial Bund, the original 'Wall Street' of Shanghai. This evening, enjoy a meal of traditional Shanghai cuisine. (B, L, D) Evening display of traditional cormorant fishing, where fisherman use trained cormorant birds to capture fish in the river. (B, L) day 4: shanghai Start the day with a tour through the Old Town to the Yu Gardens, a well-preserved example of a traditional Chinese garden. Here you will see how the trees, buildings and water features are designed to blend in perfect harmony. Cross the Great Nanpu Bridge to explore the modern Pudong area. Tour the Xintiandi neighborhood, a historic part of the city. Xintiandi was a dilapidated strip of shikumen buildings until a decade ago, when the film star Jackie Chan purchased and restored them. Today the area boasts a number of delightful cafés, restaurants and designer stores. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River, where the historic Bund and the futuristic Pudong come face-to-face. (B, L) day 5: shanghai to guilin Fly to the beautiful city of Guilin. Its name means "forest of Sweet Osmanthus", named after the large number of fragrant trees located throughout the city. The city has long been renowned for its unique scenery. The evening is yours at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll around the city, observing the many artists and poets who visit Guilin in search of inspiration among the unsurpassed beauty of the area's landscape. (B, L) day 6: li river Cruise to yangshuo Cruise the stunning Li River to Yangshuo and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of beautiful limestone hills, tranquil fishing scenes and picturesque villages. This evening, enjoy a spectacular light show on the Li River. (B, L) 12 Glories of China Deluxe day 8: guilin to xian Morning visit to Mt. Decai, before your flight to Xian, the historical heartland of China. (B, L, D) Enjoy a unique Shui Jiao dinner featuring multiple courses of Xian's famous dumplings, with many different fillings and corresponding shapes. The entertainment this evening is a dazzling Tang Dynasty Dance performance. Its early folk roots began as a ritual of prayer for a good harvest evolving over thousands of years, reaching its peak during the Tang Dynasty. Open to outside influences, the Tang combined poetry, music, singing and dancing with stunning costumes to create a distinct style. (B, L, D) day 9: xian Today you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Army of Terracotta Warriors, one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the twentieth century. The figures were created over 2,000 years ago to accompany Emperor Qin Shihuang into the afterlife. Take a leisurely walk on top of Xian's ancient city wall, one of the best preserved in China. (B, L) day 10: xian to Beijing Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda before continuing onto the renowned Shaanxi Museum, home to thousands of priceless relics. Afterwards, we'll walk through the lively Muslim Quarter to explore the Islamic food markets. Later we fly to Beijing, China's capital and cultural hub. (B, L)
