Xintiandi was a dilapidated strip of shikumen buildings until a decade ago, when the film star Jackie Chan purchased and restored them. Today the area boasts a number of delightful cafes, restaurants and designer stores. For contrast, visit the modern Pudong district with its tall and distinctive high-rise buildings. In the evening, enjoy a cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River, where the historic Bund and the futuristic Pudong come face-to-face.
